Beyond weekly classes, Yarra Heights Dance Academy offers many ways for students to strengthen and extend their dancing ability and experiences.
Annual Concert
Each year, all students perform in an end of year concert held at the George Wood Performing Arts Centre in Ringwood.
It is a fabulous celebration and display of the hard work undertaken by students through the year.
All students receive a participation medal and can also receive a range of annual awards and scholarships offered by Yarra Heights Dance Academy.
We supply all costumes from our on-site costume hire shop, which not only provides great value but means NO costume making for parents!
Exams
Yarra Heights Dance Academy is a registered dancing academy with the Australian Academy of Theatrical and Ballet Dancing Inc. (AATBD Inc) and the Asia Pacific Dance Association (APDA).
Students in all levels (from three years of age and up) wishing to take their dancing a little more seriously can participate in AATBD Inc accredited exams in tap, jazz and ballet as well as APDA accredited exams in contemporary and musical theatre.
Exams are held several times throughout the year and are optional, however students are encouraged to participate as they help challenge students and assist them to consolidate and build on their dance technique.
Exams are held in the friendly, stress-free, encouraging environment of our Kilsyth South studios, with participating students receiving a medal, certificate and critique sheet.
Participants are eligible for scholarships and awards offered by the AATBD Inc and APDA. Students in intermediate/senior levels can also take part in public examinations and competitions, and compete for trophies and scholarships.
Competitions / Performance Team
Yarra Heights Dance Academy offers three competition level teams in dance.
The academy’s performance teams compete at various dance competitions and eisteddfods held throughout the year.
Performance team provides students with a higher level of dance skills with the opportunity to further their training and development by building on performance skills and increasing confidence while competing in local and state competitions.
Due to the commitment and teamwork required, students must meet certain eligibility criteria and audition in order to join performance team.
Performance Opportunities
Every year, selected classes are chosen to feature in various performance opportunities throughout the year including community events, school fetes, shows and festivals.
In past years, classes have also been selected to participate in charity events as well as showcase events held at Crown Casino and the Asia Pacific World Cup.
In 2024, Yarra Heights Dance Academy showcased its skills and talents abroad with a team of students travelling to Disneyland to participate in a series of performances and events in the United States.
